One of my favorite parts about coming to Williamsburg are the people dressed up in period clothing. They’re telling a story of 400 years ago, but they’re really telling our story, today. George Washington actually came down to colonial Williamsburg and met with several of the Founding Fathers and this is where the inception, or the idea of, wait a minute, we could be a nation. It was right here in Williamsburg. It’s where the meetings started. This is where the culmination of all the thoughts of what freedom could look like, and become, happened. What can somebody expect to learn when they come to Williamsburg?

Learn From the Past

In Williamsburg, they help the future learn from the past.

When you think about all of the technology we have today, look what they did back then. This is so beautiful. Admire the architecture and surroundings. They did it with just crude tools and equipment and yeah, it might have taken a little longer, but the beauty is unbelievable. And let’s not leave out the foundation, the Rockefeller’s, who made this happen. He took his own money, put it into a fund, and created this so that we could enjoy it.

Now architecture was my first love. Second came history. When you combine the two of them… ooh! And that, all on its own, right there, that moment, the light, the building, the  everything, it’s just so beautiful.

I love the process of how they tell the story here because they give you an idea of how America was put together, how it’s been, how we are, and where we’re going. And you get to make your own decisions. And then you start to think what if they wouldn’t have done this? What if they wouldn’t have thought “we could be a nation. We can do this.” It is still alive today and you get to witness it and take it all in.

If you love history, and you want to get immersed in it, there’s no place like Williamsburg. It’s the past and the present. George Washington went to church here, and you can go to church here. 400 years of history, it’s then, it’s now, you gotta come here. And that’s Williamsburg Historical National Park.
